How It Started
About the Program |
The evolution of The Brazilian Bikini Body Program hinged on a few key recent developments.
In the last five years, after the cyclical waves of success and relapse experienced by the millions who jumped on diet "revolutions" like Atkins and others, people have finally begun to accept that diets are not effective at creating long-lasting changes in your health and body. Only lifestyle programs that combine realistic eating plans with exercise regimens have the efficacy required to deliver long-term body transformations.
Around the same time, beneficial Amazonian nutraceuticals, like the açaí berry, were finally able to be exported outside of Brazil. These products offer not only superlative sources of anti-oxidants and nutrients, they also taste delicious and can be consumed on-the-go--a distinct requirement for people with busy lifestyles.
These two trends dovetailed with a growing emphasis on organic food consumption and ethical eating. Now, people want to know how the food they eat affects the world they live in. Brazil's Amazon region provides not only extremely nutritious and important foods like açaí, other fruits and nuts (all of which constitute the basic building blocks of the BBBP's Nutrition Plan), but also a testing ground in which fair trade practice in harvesting and selling these products can have a direct impact on conservation of the forest and indirectly, economic and climate policies.
The creation of the BBBP was driven by a realization that Brazil is a country more people around the world will need to understand. It's agricultural exports are now (and will become even more so in the future) significant components of our daily lives. Whether it's the food we eat, or the fuel that powers our vehicles, Brazil's bounty is now under the spotlight of the world stage.
That spotlight extends beyond the food Brazil produces to its people and culture. People around the world are fascinated by this legendarily sexy and creative nation--famous for its football, beautiful people, music, architecture and design, cinema and literature, and for its hedonistic celebration of life, the apotheosis of which is the annual Carnaval.
The BBBP brings together a way of living that fuses the healthiest parts of Brazilian food and cuisine in a way that could contribute to rainforest conservation, with Brazil's inherent love of movement. Two forms of movement beloved by Brazilians--capoeira, the national martial art; and Pilates, the German-by-way-of-New-York-City core-strengthening discipline that has exploded in popularity in Brazil--merge to form an exercise regimen designed to keep the body in beach-ready shape.
Brazil's body-beautiful culture, one that has long stood in contrast to the aspirationally-anorectic-but-statistically-overweight masses of America, emphasizes a much more realistic perception of size and shape--one that sees beauty in a wider continuum of bodies. While American women struggle and starve in their media-driven pursuits, Brazilians don't see anything sexy in a body that can fit in a size zero dress. The Brazilian embrace of what defines sexiness is also a critical component of the BBBP. This psychological component, a change in perspective of what it is to be sexy and how to live life well, is also a key part of the BBBP.
These three Brazilian-derived elements--a balanced nutrition program that uses critical nutraceuticals; an easy-to-follow exercise plan; and a focus on realistic mental well-being--were the foundations on which the BBBP was created. As we find ourselves in the grip of uncertainty surrounding our bodies, our lives, and the world around us, time has come to wrestle back fun, sexiness and peace-of-mind.
This is what the BBBP has been designed to restore.
